In an ongoing effort to provide support and protection for our most vulnerable citizens, the Village has partnered with local residents to provide homemade masks for our senior citizens (65+). Due to the limited supply, we are taking care of our higher risk individuals first.
These masks, made of a double layer of regular fabric, are not N95 certified. Although they will not filter and prevent the user from contracting COVID-19, they can be used to provide an extra layer of protection for our seniors as they practice social distancing when they must go outside.
There is no charge for these masks, but they are on a first come/first serve basis and there is a limit of one per person and two per household.
If you would like to request a mask, please call 708-762-5431 to be put on the list. The masks will be dropped off at your doorstep in a marked bag.
ALL MASKS SHOULD BE WASHED DAILY IN WARM SOAPY WATER TO ENSURE THEY ARE PROPERLY SANITIZED. PLEASE WASH THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE!
The Village would like to acknowledge the many local heros that have made this program possible. Special recognition is given to Jeanette DeBartolo for donating the first 50 masks to our community. Through local fundraising efforts, Jeanette with the support of so many residents, allowed the Village the ability to assist those at greater risk of this virus. Also, a special shout out to Renee Zakosek for partnering with the Village to provide a continuous supply of new masks and allowing the Village the opportunity to take this program to next level. It truly takes a village!
