Quick tips on how to avoid receiving a violation:
Stop at the marked stop line. If there is nomarked stop line, stop before entering the crosswalk. If there is no crosswalk, stop before entering the intersection.
Once you have stopped for a red light, do not proceed through the intersectiion until the light is green and the intersection is clear.

If you are making a right turn on red, you must come to a complete stop and yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before completing your turn.

What is a Complete Stop?
A complete stop means there is no forward momentum to your vehicle, and the needle on the speedometer is at 0 mph. A rolling stop means your vehicle’s wheels are still in motion, and your vehicle is moving less than 5 mph. Failing to come to a complete stop when required to by signs or signals is a violation of Illinois traffic law.
