Winterizing

Any resident that has a lawn sprinkling system needs to winterize their lines before they freeze. This requires turning off the water supply to the sprinkler system and removing the RPZ valve to prevent freezing and breakage of the valve. In the spring, before reinstalling, be sure to have the RPZ valve tested by a certified tester. This is a requirement by Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Before the winter, be sure to remove all hoses from outside spigots and turn off the valve that feeds the spigot. Once this is done, open the spigot to release any water left. Doing this will prevent any freezing and cracking. By doing this you will save yourself from replacing your water spigot and garden hose.
