Emergency Communications

The Village of North Riverside has multiple methods of disseminating important or emergency information to our Residents. Please know that all of these services are free to residents.

Community Alert

The Village of North Riverside Community Alert Notification System is a high-speed telephone emergency notification system that can be used by the 911 dispatchers and Village Officials to deliver messages to targeted areas of the Village, or the entire Village. These alerts include, but are not limited to water boil notices, evacuation notices, road closures, weather alerts, public safety, and other important community notifications.

How It Works

The system uses a database that links your address and telephone number. When the system is activated, the operator selects the geographic area on a map that the message is targeted to. If you reside inside this area, your phone number is added to the call list, and the system will call your phone number with the recorded message. The system also has the capability to leave a message on an answering machine if there is no answer or leave an email message.

How to Make Sure That You Receive Alerts

The system is only as good as the telephone database supporting it. To ensure no one is omitted, all individuals and businesses are urged to enter their contact information into the database. You can also visit the Police Department in person and fill out the form to add your information. All businesses should register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the last two years, or who use a cellular phone as their primary phone number. In addition to your home phone number, you can also register your cell phone or work number. You can also register your cell phone number to receive notifications via email and SMS (text message).

Enter your contact information.

If you have any questions on how the system works, please contact the Police Department at 447-9191.
