Why is the U.S. Census important?
- Census data determines how federal, state and local funds are distributed. These funds are used to pay for things like education, infrastructure improvements, and public health and welfare programs to our citizens.
- Census numbers also reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state receives.
- Boundaries of congressional and state legislative districts are also made based on population shifts reported in the Census.
